History - Built by Canadian Locomotive Company (CLC), 1918 nee-CGR #2875, to CN 3275 in 1919 merger Specs - serial #1484, class S-1-b, 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 276,000 lb, tractive effort of 53,113 lb. The locomotive was scrapped in February of 1959. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo.

Description:
Stopped in front of the Stratford, Ontario, Canada, train station with its iconic crenellated tower. Built by Baldwin in July of 1910 as GTR #296 (serial #34909), it took on several numbers during its lifetime. It was renumbered #5605 in 1923, loaned to CV between 4/1925 to 7/1927 as CV #235, and eventually landed on CN roster as #5605 in July of 1927. The loco was scrapped in May of 1961. No date, location or photographer was listed for the photo.

Beautiful action photo of Canadian National 4-6-2 Pacific #5110 with its freight cars passing by the iconic Stratford station. CN 5110 was built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in August of 1919 and served the CN forty years before being scrapped in January of 1959. Serial #61476, class J-4-d. No date, location or photographer was listed but obviously the location is Stratford, Ontario station. Bruce Gemmel found the other pieces of info - Phillip T. Horning took the photo on 4/2/1958. Built by the Canadian Locomotive Company in 1913-14 as CGR #279 (serial #1205), the locomotive was absorbed into the new Canadian National in 1919 and renumbered CN 2347. It stayed on the active roster until being scrapped in April of 1959 after nearly 46 years of service. Scrapped 4/1959 Specs - 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 24x32" cylinders, engine weight of 231,800 lb, tractive effort of 44,763 lb. No photographer or exact date was given for the photo.

A once handsome looking 4-6-4 Hudson was caught by photographer H.L. Goldsmith sitting in the storage/scrap line. The loco, built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in October of 1930 for the Canadian National, once served as express passenger power between cities like Toronto to Montreal and Chicago. Sadly when diesel power took over, this loco was scrapped in June of 1961. Specs - serial #68541, K-5-a class, 80" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 23x28" cylinders, engine weight of 356,400 lb, tractive effort of 43,279 lb.

This once mighty 4-8-2 Mountain-type steam locomotive has now been relegated to the storage/scrap line at Stratford, Ontario. Built by Canadian Locomotive Works in July of 1924 (serial #1756, class U-1-b), it served until retirement. It met the scrapper's torch in January of 1959, about 5 months after this photo was taken by H.L. Goldsmith. Probably one of the very last photos of it ever taken.
